Constructive cooperation
Since 1 May 2019, the market Ergolding is again in the possession of street lighting in the network area of Stadtwerke Landshut on Ergoldinger reason. Stadtwerke Landshut enables the Ergolding market to obtain this substantial public subsidy for the modernization of street lighting. These funds would have been denied Stadtwerke Landshut due to the funding guidelines.
Previously, the market town council in its meeting in mid-April had already approved the purchase, as well as the works council of Stadtwerke Landshut. A working group, consisting of employees of the building authority of the market administration and the Stadtwerke, prepared for months the change of ownership and the necessary contracts.
Both parties praised the very constructive cooperation with a meaningful result at the signing ceremony. In the future, we will also pay attention to where cooperation between local partners is possible.
The modernization of the street lighting has the comprehensive conversion of street lighting on LED technology to the goal. Stadtwerke Stadtwerke has been using LED luminaires as standard in new development areas for some years now, but the more than 440 burners in Ergolding are still equipped with conventional light sources.
The municipalities are responsible for the street lighting due to the legal lighting obligation. In Ergolding, street lighting accounts for more than two-thirds of the annual electricity costs of its own properties. Converting to LED could save around 70 percent of the electricity bill each year in terms of the number of luminaires purchased, so the conversion will pay for itself within a very short time.
In Landshut, the street lighting is owned by the city of Landshut and the municipal utilities provide for their maintenance.

On Tuesday morning, 21.05.2019, Stadtwerke Landshut preemptively set up a mobile high-performance pump on Troppauer Straße. Because the Water Management Office warns of floods in built-up areas and the Isar in the area of Landshut is expected to reach level three in the night of Wednesday and an increase in groundwater level and further rains are expected, the public utilities have built the pump precautionary.
At the bridge on the Konrad-Adenauer-Straße is the outlet of a drainage channel of the Breslauer road. From this, mechanically purified water is discharged into the river Isar during heavy rainfall events in order to relieve the reservoir channel. However, the Isar presses against the outlet flap at high tide, so that the free flow of the mechanically purified water is severely limited.
The pump helps draw in some of the water from the drainage channel at a depth of 3.50 meters and pump it via four pressure pipes directly next to the outlet construction in the Isar - 300 liters per second creates the pump in addition to the regular discharge of the channel.

In Landshuter Norden, there was a power failure on Monday, 29.04.2019. Affected were the areas Bayerwaldsiedlung, commercial area Bayerwald, a part of the old Wolfgangiedlung and an area north of Rupprechtstraße (between Einsele- and Luitpoldstraße). Cause were construction work of a company, which carried out a flushing bore on behalf of Bayernwerk AG at the outer park road in Altdorf and apparently at 9.47 clock damaged at least one of several main supply lines (a 20 kV line). As a result, an overvoltage resulted, which resulted in power outages at 9.53 clock in a row. The municipal utilities immediately worked at full speed to bring the affected households back to the power grid as quickly as possible. At 10:39 am, the larger areas were again stably supplied with electricity, at 10:50 am also the area north of Rupprechtstrasse.

"Leave no one behind - water and sanitation for all" is the motto of the United Nations World Water Day this year. This day has been going on for 25 years and it takes place every year on the 22nd of March. The motto of 2019 is to highlight the importance of access to clean water around the world. For Landshuter, however, clean water is a matter of course due to the supply of public utilities.
The Landshut water, which is mainly pumped at the Siebensee pumping station, is constantly being tested by an independent laboratory. In 2018, 218 parameters such as pesticides, heavy metals and nitrate were analyzed in 2042 individual analyzes. The measured values are regularly well below the legal limits and are not detectable for certain parameters or are below the limit of quantification. "The water pumped by Stadtwerke Landshut is of the highest quality and can be safely consumed from the tap," says plant manager Armin Bardelle.
Basically, the quality of the water depends on the nature of the substrate, but also on the man-made influences. Artificial fertilizer and liquid manure, which farmers bring to the fields, are included, for example. Stadtwerke Landshut, in cooperation with the farmers, has targeted these influenceable factors at an early stage. "Since 1994, the municipal utilities have been committed to sustainable management of the water protection area in Siebensee," explains Bardelle.
Of the 188 billion available cubic meters of groundwater, surface water and spring water in the water cycle, only about 2.7 percent are produced in Germany each year. The water, which comes out of the line at the end, is by far the cheapest food in Germany: A liter costs, according to the Federal Association of Energy and Water (BDEW) across Germany, on average, only 0.2 cents. In Landshut the liter of water is even cheaper for 0.154 cents.
The average water consumption in Germany as well as in Landshut has fallen by 20 percent since 1990, based on the distribution of public water utilities in the area of households and small businesses. With investments amounting to € 2.8 billion in 2018, water utilities in Germany attach great importance to maintaining high quality standards. Stadtwerke Stadtwerke invest about two million euros annually in the water supply, with the lion's share flowing into the pipeline network and the connecting lines.
Just as important as the supply of clean drinking water is the treatment of the wastewater. In Germany, about 97 percent of households are connected to public sewers.
Consumers rate the water supply in Germany fundamentally positively. In a recent survey by the BDEW, 79 percent of respondents certify that their drinking water is of good to very good quality. The water companies themselves also enjoy a good image among consumers.
The World Water Day, initiated by UNESCO in 1992, has been held every year since March 22, 1993, to raise public awareness of the resource of water. For World Water Day 2018, the UN World Water Decade has begun, which lasts until March 2028 and with which the United Nations draws particular attention to the issues of water and water protection.
